The Research Cluster on Energy Management & Technology
Our interdisciplinary research cluster at the University of Klagenfurt is dedicated to developing ecologically, technologically, and economically beneficial solutions that contribute to a sustainable society and economy. We address some of the most significant challenges facing modern society, including resource management and climate change. The long-term exhaustibility of fossil fuels and their impact on the environment underscores the need for innovative technologies in power generation, consumption, and transportation.
Our research aligns with the European Union’s current climate objectives, which aim for a 55% reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and climate neutrality by 2050. We also support the EU’s “Energy Roadmap,” which seeks to achieve near-total decarbonization of the energy system by 2050. We believe that economic activity, environmental protection, and resource conservation can coexist, and our focus on “green economy” concepts aims to harmonize these goals.
The cluster emphasizes the importance of smart grids and integrates insights from various fields, including energy law, technological innovation, and regional economic matters. Our research informs the Business Administration degree, particularly in the “Energy and Environmental Management” branch and the “Extension Programme in Sustainable Development and Energy”.
